UK Government Denies Report of Russian and Chinese Hacks of Sellafield Nuclear Site

In a confusing turn of events, a year-long investigation by The Guardian called Nuclear Leaks revealed that the UK’s most hazardous nuclear site, Sellafield, has been hacked into by cyber groups closely linked to Russia and China, which the UK government denied, saying it has no records or evidence to suggest that networks at the Sellafield nuclear site were the victim of a successful cyber attack by state actors.

The Guardian says the hack and its potential effects have been consistently covered up by senior staff at Sellafield. In a statement posted on the Gov. UK website, Sellafield said, “We have no records or evidence to suggest that Sellafield Ltd networks have been successfully attacked by state actors in the way described by the Guardian.” Sellafield added, “We have asked th…
