A zero-day flaw in Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 discovered, an Xbox bug could have revealed email addresses, Sophos suffered a security breach, Threat actors stole info from Belden, much more
Baltimore County, Maryland schools, were shut down a day early ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday due to a ransomware attack on the school system that affected email, grading, and some study materials. Initial speculation suggests that the ransomware was Ryuk, given that some encrypted files had a .ryuk extension. Ryuk has recently been deployed against hospitals and local governments.
Some teachers say they are worried they have also lost essential teaching materials. The attack came just as the school system was preparing to move to online classes only due to the spike in coronavirus infections spreading across the nation. It’s not clear at this point when the school system will normally be functioning again. (Liz Bowie and Alison Knezevich / Baltimore Sun)
