The news that a ransomware threat actor, reportedly the DarkSide criminal gang operating out of Eastern Europe, took down Colonial Pipeline, a major pipeline company that supplies around half the East Coast’s oil and gas supply needs, rocked the information security world over the weekend.
Colonial said that it shut down its IT and certain of its OT operations proactively to contain the threat. It is working with federal authorities and has hired FireEye Mandiant for incident response.
