MGM Resorts Suffers $100 Million Blow from Ransomware Attack

MGM Resorts International said that a cyberattack that disrupted its operations last month would cause a $100 million hit to its third-quarter results as it works to restore its systems.
It expects to also incur less than $10 million as a related one-time cost in the quarter that ended on September 30 due to the attack by the AlphV group, which worked with another threat actor, Scattered Spider, to break into MGM systems and steal data to hold for extortion.
MGM confirmed that hackers stole some of its customers’ data, including name, contact information (such as phone number, email address, and postal address), gender, date of birth, and driver's license number.
