In an effort dubbed “Operation Cookie Monster,” the FBI and other global law enforcement agencies seized several domain names tied to cybercrime store Genesis Market, which sold access to passwords and other data stolen from millions of computers infected with malicious software.
Sources say that the domain seizures coincided with “dozens” of arrests in the United States and abroad, targeting those who allegedly operated the service and suppliers who continuously fed Genesis Market with freshly-stolen data. Multiple Genesis-related domains had their homepages replaced with a seizure notice from the FBI, which said the domains were seized under a warrant issued by the US District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin.
