The US Justice Department announced it has disrupted the Black Cat ransomware group, also known as ALPHV or Noberus, that has targeted the computer networks of more than 1,000 victims and caused worldwide harm since its inception, including networks that support US critical infrastructure.
According to the splash on the gang’s dark website, the takedown operation also involved law enforcement agencies from the United Kingdom, Denmark, Germany, Spain, and Australia. According to the government’s search warrant, the FBI engaged with a “confidential human source” close to the ransomware gang, who provided agents with credentials to access ALPHV/BlackCat’s affiliate panel for managing the gang’s victims.”
