Facebook Scrubs 200-Plus Fake Accounts Traced Back to Russian Military Intelligence
Facebook announced today that it has removed over 200 phony accounts and dozens of pages that are linked to Russian military intelligence’s infamous Internet Research Agency. Thus bogus network runs influence operations targeting sensitive geopolitical issues from Turkey to the U.S. Nathaniel Gleicher, Facebook’s head of security policy, said the social media giant has not seen the fake accounts directly targeting the U.S. 2020 campaign, but likened the actors to those who were involved in the website called DC Leaks, which served as an outlet for hacked documents during the 2016 presidential campaign.
