For the third day in a row, the SolarWinds security breach dominated the information security world yesterday as details surrounding the massive infiltration of the almost certainly Russian-state delivered Sunburst surveillance malware continued to leak out. First, one prominent Senator, Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), who sits on the Armed Services Subcommittee on Cybersecurity among other assignments, appeared to be the first government official to verify that it was indeed Russia that inserted the Sunburst malware into SolarWinds’ Orion product. A tainted update to the Orion product is the source of what many experts believe is the highly feared widespread infection across the government and business sectors.
