Cyberattack Disrupted Medical Services Across a Wide Swath of the US

A cyberattack on multi-state medical services provider Prospect Medical Holdings resulted in canceled elective surgeries, outpatient appointments, emergency room services, and blood drives and forced dozens of healthcare facilities to revert to pen and paper across a wide swath of the United States.
Prospect operates 16 hospitals and more than 165 clinics and outpatient centers in Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Southern California.
“Upon learning of this, we took our systems offline to protect them and launched an investigation with the help of third-party cybersecurity specialists,” the company said. “While our investigation continues, we are focused on addressing the pressing needs of our patients as we work diligently to return to normal operations as quickly as possible.”
