Senior officials at the FBI and Department of Justice said on Wednesday that under Operation Cookie Monster, investigators were able to take down the cybercrime platform Genesis Market after identifying and locating its backend servers.
Almost 120 people were arrested within 24 hours of the takedown on Tuesday of one of the world’s largest facilitators of online fraud. The FBI’s Milwaukee Field Office investigated the case with assistance from 44 other field offices and international law enforcement partners. Officials said the servers were seized under a warrant authorized by the US District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin.
